What's the law for organic agricultural products in Australia?

General view:

Australian law requires that all agricultural and veterinary chemicals sold in Australia be registered by the Australian Veterinary Pesticide and Medicines Authority (APVMA). The registration of a product is approved for the purposes and uses indicated on the label.

Organic agricultural products are included in the Agvet Code definition of an agricultural chemical and, therefore, will be registered by APVMA.

Product Registration Process

Information Requirements:

The required information is the following: physicochemical properties, toxicology, residue, worker health and safety, the environment, as well as efficacy and safety. No data omissions apply to organic agricultural products. If certain information is not considered necessary, relevant scientific arguments must be presented to justify an exemption.
